According to a report in Punch newspaper, the Academic Staff of Nigerian Universities may suspend her 4 month old strike this week Thursday.
The National Executive Committee of ASUU will meet on Wednesday night to consider the positions of the congresses of the over 50 public universities on the offer of the Federal Government.
The union had about 12 hour meeting in Abuja with the Federal Government team headed by President Goodluck Jonathan last Tuesday where government agreed to inject N220bn yearly into the public university system for the next five years.
After briefing with zonal coordinators, the ASUU leadership directed all local branches to hold congresses within the timeline of last Friday and this Tuesday to allow lecturers contribute to further actions after NEC meeting on Wednesday.
Some universities congress meetings are scheduled to hold today and there is brighter hope that the long old strike will be suspended later this week.
However, some people have expressed concern over government fulfilling the promise of injecting N220bn yearly for next five years considering her previous failures in honouring past promises while majority still feel the government should be given the benefit of doubt.
Whatever may be the situation, we are all hopeful and look forward to our brothers, sisters, sons and daughters resuming back to school.
